Second International Symposium on Riordan Arrays and Related Topics

The general topic of the symposium is the theory and application of Riordan arrays. Its goal is to highlight the most salient trends in the field. Particular areas of interest include (but are not limited to) the algebraic structure of Riordan arrays, Riordan arrays and combinatorial sums, Sheffer matrices, Umbral Calculus, lattice paths theory, combinatorics of posets, lattices and words, and many other aspects of combinatorics and their relations with other parts of mathematics, computer science, physics and biology.

Riordan arrays have been introduced in 1991 by L. W. Shapiro, S. Getu, W. J. Woan and L. Woodson with the aim of defining a class of infinite lower triangular arrays with properties analogous to those of the Pascal triangle. Few years later, in 1994, R. Sprugnoli pointed out the importance of these matrices in the computation of combinatorial sums. Since then Riordan arrays have attracted, and continue to attract, much attention in the literature. In particular, the algebraic structure of these matrices, their relationship with the computation of combinatorial sums and many combinatorial applications have been studied over the years.

The first meeting on "Riordan Arrays and Related Topics" was held on August 6-9, 2014 in Seoul, South Korea, as one of eight invited minisymposiums in the 19th International Linear Algebra Society Conference (ILAS2014: http://www.ilas2014.org/).

The second meeting will be held on July 14-16, 2015, in Lecco (on lake Como), Italy, and will be organized in honor of Lou Shapiro and Renzo Sprugnoli, in consideration of all their important contributions on the topic. The symposium will gather together researchers from all over the globe world to present some of their most important recent results on the theory and applications of Riordan arrays and the Riordan group.

The meeting will includes invited lectures (30 or 40 minutes) and contributed talks (20 minutes). The meeting also includes a social dinner and an excursion.
